Welcome as you get started on your Safe Ministry journey with the Essentials course!
Who should do this course?
This course is designed for those who seek to be involved in any way in ministry to children, youth and other vulnerable people. This includes any person who is in a leadership role in the church and may also include any person who is alone with a vulnerable adult for the purpose of ministry e.g. transporting a vulnerable person.
You should complete the Safe Ministry Essentials course if
- you have not completed approved safe ministry training, or
- your previous course was completed over 3yrs ago and has now expired, or
- your previous training was the Junior Leader’s course.
Layout of the online course
Course Content block
This can be found below and in the My Course Dashboard page of your account. It contains the topics and sub-topics for this course that must be completed in order.
To progress through the course just read the material, watch any videos and complete the activities and checkpoint contained in each topic. Once you have finished the checkpoint for a topic, a green tick will be visible next to the topic heading in the course content block to indicate your progress through the training.
The time it will take to complete each topic will vary, but if you are already familiar with some of the material you may find you move through parts of the course fairly quickly.
Mini-Dashboard sidebar
This can be found on the right of most pages in your course and contains:
- Course Navigation pane with links for your course topics/sub-topics
- A reminder of your course Enrolment Expiry date (this is separate to your training expiry date – see this article for more information)
- Access to your Notes app for note taking during your training
‘Materials’ tab
You will find a ‘Materials’ tab near the top of each page of your course. Click on this to access key documents related to your course.
